You do not prune roses before the frost.
When you are sure there will be no more frost in spring you prune your roses.
You can prune it a little or down to 25 - 30 centimetes. Depending on what kind of rose you have and depending on what you yourself want.
"Evelyn" grows very Quickly - but is pruned very little. Has hundreds of flowers every year
If it is a new rose from this summer you might not want to prune very much.

"Pat Austin" an Austin Rose that becomes a big bush in England but the frost in Denmark is hard on it so I prune it very little - but it is still a " smaller" rose in my garden
But isn't it lovely?
